ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR / CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER / EMPLOYER RELATIONS
Position Summary
This position provides oversight for the employer relations team within the Career Development Center, including supervision of the assistant director of employer relations. The associate director develops, manages, and communicates program activities that support employer, faculty, and student career relationships and creates and develops department marketing activities on and off campus to engage with employers. This position maintains existing employer relationships and cultivates new partnerships, which includes managing the Employer Spotlight and Employer Partnership Programs and associated resources, dedicated for academic colleges. Additionally, this role supervises job development and internship coordination activities/events and serves as a liaison to the College of Business Administration, the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, and the College of Arts & Media.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a related field.
- Five years of related professional experience.
- Experience with websites, mobile applications and virtual environments for job search, on-line networking, and recruiting systems.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with multiple internal and external constituencies, a broad range of student & employer populations, and differing perspectives one may encounter in a wide range of work settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication, coaching, managerial, social media, and marketing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute events and conduct classroom presentations, workshops, and programs.
- Solid understanding of job market trends and projections.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and occasional weekends as required.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree.
- General knowledge of university curricula and higher education policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages relationships with the College of Business Administration, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the College of Arts & Media for various programming and employer introductions.
- Provides oversight for the employer relations team, including full-time staff and interns/student employees.
- Provides oversight for internship coordination strategy, including leading the effort in working with employers to help students easily report out about experiential learning opportunities.
- Leads the effort in tracking employer engagement within the Career Development Center.
- Provides support to the Director for leadership discussions around campus wide external engagement strategies.
- Articulates, advocates, and assists with internship opportunities for students in partnership with faculty and academic units.
- Advises employers in developing and implementing effective college recruitment strategies at CMU.
- Collaborates with and represents the Career Development Center in partnership with various departments across campus.
- Organizes and leads corporate site visits to promote the hiring of CMU students and strengthens employer relations.
- Markets services and programs to current and prospective students, parents, employer representatives, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni.
- Participates in campus, community, state, regional, and national associations.
- Guides and supervises working with cross-campus departments and student groups to put on career fairs and networking events.
- Analyzes, compiles, and disseminates statistical reports relating to employment trends and the salaries of CMU students.
- Manages employer/recruiting database updates.
- Supervises Interns, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
