Job Summary:

We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Associate Director for Support ServicesReporting to the Director for Student Accommodations & Support Services (SASS), the Associate Director for Support Services connects students with essential wrap-around care and services. Helping students navigate accommodations, university processes, Title IX support, basic needs support, and academic resources, this position is a primary leader in assessing and supporting students experiencing life issues and barriers to success. SASS is a team dedicated to supporting students with the goal of increasing student success and retention.

The Associate Director for Student Support Services must be able to guide multiple complex student cases on a concurrent basis, communicate effectively with myriad constituencies, prepare sensitive, high-level reports, correspondence, and briefing materials, and function autonomously with significant discretion in a dynamic environment. The position regularly deals with students in crisis and sensitive matters and is a key supervisor, case manager, communicator, educator, and advocate for students.

The Associate Director is tasked with helping create and support an equitable· learning community at EWU for all students who need support services and a secondary point of contact for Student Accommodations and Support Services (SASS). The Associate Director will work closely with the Director to ensure students receive support services they need by working collaboratively with campus stakeholders, particularly departments/units integral to providing guidance and assistance to students.

The Associate Director is responsible for advising, advocating for, and providing student support services. Additionally, the Associate Director will help with designing and facilitating programs, workshops, resources, and communications to support students in crisis. Specific positional focus is on students dealing with sexual misconduct, mental health concerns, and other high-level crisis situations.

The Associate Director will build collaborative internal and external relationships, work closely with all Student Affairs case managers to connect students in need of resources and support, and help oversee SASS’s involvement in campus, local, and regional activities/events that contribute to student success and retention. This position supervises department staff and student employees, as well as advises and assists students, staff, and faculty with referrals to appropriate on- and off-campus resources, as needed.

The salary for this position is $64,164 up to $80,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience, including at least two (2) years of experience advising students or serving as a case manager. [Internship, volunteer, or related work that is commensurate with five years of professional experience, including at least one (1) year of experience advising students may substitute.]
  • Demonstrated experience with support services.
  • Experience interpreting a variety of documentation and determining appropriate actions.
  • High level of cultural humility and experience working effectively with marginalized populations.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and planning training.
  • Supervision experience, which can include supervising student/part-time employees.
  • Demonstrate interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural humility, crisis care, student advising, universal accessibility, disability services, and/or diverse populations.
  • Ability to learn to adapt approach in interpersonal communication based on disability-specific needs.
  • Must be able to remain calm and think clearly and critically when interacting with highly distressed stakeholders. Distressed stakeholders could include individuals who are demanding, crying, yelling, and are behaving irrationally.
  • Ongoing willingness to self-monitor own personal response to emotional stress and trauma permitting them to remain objective and effective in the role.
  • Familiarity with nondiscrimination laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of theories and practices related to college student development.
  • Experience with assessment and design of learning outcomes.
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, and/or other forms of revenue generation.
  • Proficiency in EAB Navigate, AIM and Maxient software platforms.
  • Direct experience working with college or young adult population with mental health, learning, attentional, or chronic health conditions.
  • Mental Health Professional License

Job Duties:

Administration and Management

  • Assist the Director in managing daily operations of the SASS. Serve as a secondary point of contact for Support Services.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate student and professional staff in SASS.
  • Develop and conduct training pertaining to support services.
  • Act, as needed, in the absence of the Director during staff meetings.
  • Track expenditures to ensure they are in alignment with SASS budgets as established.
  • In partnership with the Director, develop, implement, and evaluate annual goals and learning objectives for SASS, its programs and staff, and assist with the development of multi-year strategic planning efforts for the Student Life unit under Student Affairs.
  • Maintain administrative reports, compile data on program activities, and coordinate assessment processes used to analyze and evaluate effectiveness of the SASS services, usage, and outreach.
  • Help maintain and update the SASS’s website and social media pages and integrate technological resources into the center’s operations/programs.
  • Oversee updating and production of regular publications and promotional materials.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of university policies and procedures as they relate to student accommodations and support services, communications, and university facilities. Maintain current knowledge of changes in university policies.
  • Collaborate with SASS team in developing protocols for students in crisis and in need of additional support.
  • Respond to requests for presentations, trainings, workshops, lectures, panels, and resources related to students in crisis and support services.
  • Develop programmatic partnerships and coalitions with academic and administrative departments as well as student and community organizations. Promote support services and serve as a point of contact for campus partners.
  • Serve as a resource in providing assistance and referral information to students, staff, and faculty regarding grievances, alleged discrimination, and harassment, in accordance with campus policies. Assist other administrative departments in responding to such complaints as needed.
  • Analyze current issues, trends, and best practices – on the local, regional, and national level – related to accommodations, disability services, support services, inclusion, higher education, and students in crisis.
  • Help represent SASS on campus-wide committees and public forums as needed.
  • In partnership with the Director, initiate, develop, and/or support student, staff, and faculty orientation programs and campus publications.

Case Management and Outreach

  • Provide support, resources, referrals, resources, and assistance with navigating university-wide operations, on-and-off campus service coordination, accommodations, problem-solving, and help for students who are impacted by traumatic, disruptive or disturbing life events (i.e. intimate partner violence, bias motivated incidents, major illness/injury, etc.)
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, parents, and other health care providers, for purposes of care coordination and referrals to community and private resources as appropriate.
  • Conduct individual intakes with students to determine appropriate supports, accommodations, resources, auxiliary services, and available supplemental information to support academic success, retention, and graduation.
  • Review and verify student submitted documentation in accordance with university policies.
  • Ensure timeliness of student case management from referral/intake to administration of appropriate support measures.
  • Manage individual caseload to ensure: two (2) to four (4) student appointments per day and maintain full, accurate, and up-to-date case records in appropriate case management systems.
  • Develop individualized success plans as required for students with needs for academic modifications due to religious, TIX, disability, or other related needs in consultation with colleagues as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a bank of student support referral options throughout the University’s primary service area that can serve specific student needs (childcare, SNAP, housing, food assistance, mental/physical/social/spiritual health, and culturally relevant resources).
  • Build, maintain, and enhance a sense of belonging and community for students who seek additional support or are eligible for SASS supported programs.
  • Other case management duties as assigned.

University and Divisional Services

  • Actively participate in projects and activities to support the mission and objectives of the SASS and Eagle Care.
  • Attend unit meetings and Student Affairs divisional meetings.
  • Serve on departmental/university committees as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of SASS.
