Associate Director of Alumni Affairs and Member Engagement

BMCC has a significant population of Alumni who can serve, are already serving, and who have served as partners, donors, and investors in its work with students, providing potential general, operational, and programmatic support, scholarships, internships, apprenticeships, other services, and job opportunities. BMCC and BMCCF have more than 100,000 Alumni records in our Donor database. The Associate Director of Alumni Affairs and Member Engagement would be responsible for significantly increasing the annual and long-term funding and support by driving philanthropic opportunities for the more than 100,000 alumni in our as donors, members, and partners in areas such as scholarships, experiential learning support, student success and persistence, student life and experiences, innovative spaces and technologies, and for developing other resources for BMCC and the BMCC Foundation.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate and Foundation Development and Engagement, the Associate Director is responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive and integrated strategic resource development and constituent engagement initiatives with a focus on increased and sustained engagement for and support from all alumni constituents, including but not limited to volunteers and other advancement constituents. This position is also responsible for working with the Vice President of OIA, the Advancement team, as well as other departments and units of the college in: coordinating with our corporate and corporate foundation partners to secure robust career development, mentorship, and placement opportunities for our pre-alumni and alumni; reconstituting an effective BMCC Alumni Association, and for supporting the goals and objectives and operations of the BMCC Alumni Association as lead staff, including but not limited to membership growth, unique engagement growth, affinity and travel program management, and strengthened connectedness of BMCC alumni with BMCC.
The Associate Director would have the responsibility to work in collaboration with key symmetrical partners within the college to sustain and secure additional funding from current and future alumni, to function in a principal capacity in the outreach to and re-engagement of the alumni, including high net worth alumni, including those who have contributed to BMCC, and in identifying and securing contributions from new alumni to support programs, students, staff, and as importantly, the operational, and capital needs of the college. At a minimum, this position would be able to generate $750,000 within the fiscal year.
POSITION DETAILS:
- Manage College's alumni relations activities and promote an active and engaged alumni base.
- Implement, monitor comprehensive alumni relations program, as lead staff, including reconstituting and managing an effective BMCC Alumni Association based upon best practices.
- Recommend strategies, programs, events, stewardship incentives and plans to increase involvement among alumni.
- Develop and manage an annual schedule of reunion events and other alumni activities, and handle alumni communications through social media, organized email outreach, other correspondence, direct telephone contact and/or personal meetings.
- Work collaboratively with other areas of the College to promote and improve alumni participation.
- Responsible for segmenting data to personalize outreach to different groups of constituents to maximize responses.
- Prepare reports and presentations evaluating outcomes of alumni programs.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with alumni donors and volunteers, collaborating with other development staff as appropriate.
- Understand and report on key indicators of performance including open rates, response rates, and average gift sizes.
- Utilize performance data on alumni participation and response rates to constantly improve the quality of the database and our methods of outreach.
- Other responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree and six years’ related experience required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced Degree preferred
- Excellent ability to communicate effectively via oral and written means.
- Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative, creativity and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, organize, motivate and inspire others.
- Ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally and the ability to articulate and advocate for institutional goals clearly.
- High level of organizational skills including the ability to simultaneously manage a large number and variety of tasks and priorities.
- A commitment to customer service is essential.
- Able to deal with the pressure of deadlines.
- Familiarity and knowledge of fundraising and/or donor relations best practices is essential.
- Proficient in PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, excel, database management, social media and data entry.
- Experience working with Raisers Edge is essential.
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends for alumni events as necessary.
