Job Description Summary
The Athletic Communications office is the most public element of the University of Pennsylvania's Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA) and its 33 varsity programs and is charged with the goal of positively promoting the University's nearly 1,000 student-athletes and more than 200 coaches, staff and athletic administrators.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary media contact for at least three varsity sports, including at least one ticketed sport. (Ticketed sports at Penn are football, M/W basketball, wrestling, and M/W lacrosse.) This includes coordinating all media interaction with the programs' athletes and coaches; game-day operations related to statistical and media activities for home events; and travel as appropriate.
- Manage elements of social media output for their assigned sport teams, including a heavy focus on creative story-telling opportunities for Penn Athletics and team-related accounts for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
- Help supervise two part-time Communications Assistants, with direct supervision over one of them.
- Work with Senior Director of Administration to identify, appoint and oversee internship candidates for Athletic Communications as Penn Athletics undergoes a new, expansive intern program.
- Provide support to a responsive web site (supported by SIDEARM) and updated mobile platforms.
- Support inter-office departmental needs including, but not limited to, the Penn Sports Network/Ivy League on ESPN, marketing, development, Penn Quakers Sports Properties (JMI), facilities/operations.
- Serve as the Athletic Communications requisitioner, working with the fiscal office to pay office bills as well as invoices for independent contractors such as photographers and other contracted jobs.
- Serve as office manager in terms of ordering supplies.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Must possess excellent written, interpersonal and computer skills.
- Time management skills are essential as the candidate will be asked to multi-task on a daily basis.
- Compliance with all Ivy league/NCAA rules and regulations required.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as well as travel with teams as required.
- Valid driver's license required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
