Associate Director of Stewardship, School of Arts & Sciences
Position Purpose
The Associate Director of Stewardship advances philanthropic engagement for the School of Arts & Sciences by ensuring donors are consistently and effectively informed of the use and impact of the initiatives they have supported. This role provides essential stewardship infrastructure to support donor trust, satisfaction, and long-term engagement. The Associate Director of Stewardship designs and delivers timely, accurate, and meaningful donor communications, builds and strengthens stewardship processes, and serves as a key partner to development colleagues, faculty, and staff to enhance the overall A&S donor experience.
Stewardship Strategy, Reporting, and Donor Experience
- Manages and executes a comprehensive stewardship program for donors who support the School of Arts & Sciences through endowed and current-use giving. Ensures timely, accurate, and donor-centered acknowledgments and reporting on the use and impact of philanthropic support, aligned with donor intent and institutional priorities. Accountable for annual goals related to both the quantity and quality of reports for a range of funds. Works closely with the Office of A&S Finance and Administration to ensure that distributions from endowed funds are spent according to donor intent. Partners with faculty, academic leaders, and program staff to gather compelling impact content (e.g., student stories, faculty research highlights, program outcomes) to enhance donor communications.
- Partners with the Central Advancement Recognition and Stewardship team on collaborative and cross-institutional stewardship initiatives.
- Contributes to campaign-related stewardship efforts and special donor communications as fundraising priorities evolve.
- Serves as a stewardship resource for development colleagues, providing guidance and consultation to support coordinated, high-quality donor engagement across the school.
- Manages other stewardship and recognition projects as needed in support of fundraising priorities and to deepen engagement, improve donor retention, and encourage increased lifetime giving. Supports recognition initiatives, donor listings, and naming opportunities in coordination with institutional policies and brand standards.
Data Integrity, Systems, and Process Improvement
- Ensures accurate and consistent recording of stewardship activities in the institution's advancement database by collaborating with Advancement Systems and Services and adhering to data standards and best practices.
- Tracks stewardship deliverables and deadlines; develops tools and processes to manage increasing volume and complexity efficiently.
- Leverages reporting tools, business intelligence systems, and data visualization resources to support stewardship planning, transparency, and decision-making.
- Participates in cross-functional project teams to improve stewardship workflows, reporting technologies, and communication practices.
