Position Summary

The College of Nursing invites applications for the Associate/Full Professor position in the Tenure System faculty appointment system. Position responsibilities include obtaining and maintaining an established program of funded extramural and interdisciplinary research that prioritizes inclusive excellence; being a published nursing scholar; teaching across undergraduate and graduate nursing education, including area(s) of expertise that contribute to outreach and community service. The position also requires a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) for our student body, faculty and staff. The successful candidate will also provide mentorship across nursing programs and actively participate in college and university committees, upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical behavior.
Applicant's research should enhance or complement current College of Nursing concentrations in health promotion and illness prevention, symptom science and management, or health services research, all within the context of addressing health equity and social determinants of health. The appointment of academic rank and salary are dependent on evidence of research, teaching, and scholarship achievements. This is an academic year faculty position.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining a program of research in one of the concentration areas of the CON listed above. Implementing research strategies that include a range of methodologies and analytic methods.
- Working with senior research leadership within the college, university, and community to identify areas of research needs and supporting the development of research grants to meet these needs.
- In collaboration with our Associate Dean for Research and the PhD Program, assisting early career scientists to build and strengthen the focus of their research as it aligns with our nation’s current research needs and funding trends
- Actively participating in recruitment initiatives aimed at diversifying junior, mid-career, and senior researchers across various disciplines, with a focus on promoting inclusion and representation from historically underrepresented groups.
- Participating in the service to the college and university (i.e., academic governance process)
- Participating in community outreach and networking at local, regional, state, national and international levels
- Broad dissemination of research findings to communities of interest both domestic and international.
Required Degree
Doctorate -Nursing or related field
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Nursing or related field
- Unrestricted RN license without probationary status (or eligible) as applicable
- Maintain and grow a focused program of nationally-funded research as PI, Multi-PI and/or Co-PI
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in nursing or related field
- Demonstrated record of advising and mentoring UG and graduate students
- Exceptional record of successfully mentoring junior researchers, leading to their research dissemination and funding
- Current or most recent experience in a leadership role on local, regional, national, or international professional committees and/or board
- Commitment to scholarly work to enhance DEI through practice, policy, and education
- National and/or international dissemination in area of research
- Consistently publishing four or more peer-reviewed publications in indexed high-impact journals annually, with the majority of publications being first or senior author
- Current and recent history of presenting peer-reviewed podium presentations annually at national or international conferences
- Received recognition for research achievements through awards at regional, national, and/or international levels
- Meet the criteria for appointment as an Associate or Full Professor in the tenure track at Michigan State University College of Nursing (see indicators)
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
