"Associate or Full Professor in Computational Biology"

Vanderbilt University invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor in Computational Biology as part of Vanderbilt’s new College of Connected Computing, housing computer science, data science, and those valuing work at the intersection of advanced computation and other disciplines. The college aims to advance breakthrough discoveries through interdisciplinary collaborations between other colleges on campus through a “computing for all” approach. To that end, this faculty will help grow computational biology in collaboration with the Vanderbilt School of Medicine and the Center for Computational Systems Biology (CCSB) -- a transinsitutional center that aims to leverage team science and computational biology to turn biomolecular data into actionable insights. Specific subfields of interest include but are not limited to:

• Computational / algorithmic genomics
• Algorithms and data structures for statistical inference over biological data
• High/super resolution cell imaging
• Multiplex molecular imaging
• Graph theory on molecular networks
• Biomedical Natural Language Processing
• Generative AI for drug design and protein folding

Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt School of Medicine is home to several large data intensive initiatives that the candidate can draw on, such as the BioVU, Human Tumor Atlas Network, HuBMAP, SPORE, Human Cell Atlas, and computing initiatives with Oak Ridge National Labs. Vanderbilt University is a private university, with a long history of pioneering work in biology. The 330 acre park-like campus is on the western edge of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is a regional center for culture and technology which has been growing alongside the University since Vanderbilt’s opening 150 years ago, in 1875.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in computer science, biology, or psychology (or a related field such as biomedical engineering, statistics, data science, communications, or neuroscience). Candidates must have a research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publication using advanced computational methods (such as computational modeling, machine learning, AI, or algorithm development). Candidates should also have a track record of contributing to multidisciplinary and/or multi-institutional collaborative research projects. Teaching in the College of Connected Computing is a component of this position.
