Description
The Department of English at The University of Texas at Austin, in conjunction with the New Writers Project and the Michener Center for Writers, seeks to hire a tenured fiction writer with a distinguished publishing record at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Job duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, directing honors theses and MFA reports, mentoring talented student writers, providing service to the department, college, the New Writers Project, the Michener Center, and the university, and maintaining a high level of publishing productivity. We seek candidates with a record meriting a Professorship or Distinguished Chair in Creative Writing (Fiction). The position begins Fall of the 2026-27 academic year. (8/16/2025)
Qualifications
An MFA, PhD degree, or the equivalent as determined through demonstration of an outstanding publishing career, is required. A minimum of two published books of fiction and substantial teaching experience are required. Preferred qualifications include a substantial and high-quality publication record, a national reputation, and an excellent teaching record.

The committee will begin reviewing applications on November 10, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.
