Position Overview
The Department of Geography at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor. We seek a promising scholar with research and teaching expertise in quantitative political geography, and with the demonstrated potential to emerge as a leader in the field of conflict studies.
Outstanding opportunities for collaboration exist with other campus centers and units, including the Translational Data Analytics Institute, Sustainability Institute, and the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center.
Performance Objectives
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Develop and maintain a productive research program;
- Attract external funding;
- Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Demonstrate excellence in student mentorship; and,
- Support departmental operations as an active citizen through service on committees, project assignments, and/or administrative leadership roles.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Geography, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology or a closely related field. We seek a colleague with research expertise in one or more of the following areas: physical, polar, tropical, synoptic, mesoscale, or radar meteorology.
Desired: The ideal candidate should have a strong background in meteorology. Previous degrees in Atmospheric Sciences or Meteorology are preferred. The candidates research program may also leverage the Department of Geographys newly available mobile phased array X-band radar coming online in winter 2026. Previous experience with university teaching is also desirable. The successful candidate will demonstrate creativity, collegiality, and the capacity to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries within the department, the university, and the broader atmospheric sciences community.
