Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies (Environmental Justice)
The Environmental Studies Program at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year leave-replacement position focused on environmental justice at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2026. We seek candidates to teach an intermediate-level course on environmental justice, an introductory course in environmental studies, and an additional course in their area of expertise. Areas of expertise could include (but are not limited to): global environmental politics, political ecology, environmental political theory, critical environmental justice, environmental social movements, participatory action research, climate change and racial justice, decolonizing environmental studies, and/or indigenous environmental justice. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary training in the environmental social sciences and/or humanities. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. The teaching load for this position is five courses during the year. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $77,900 to $80,400.
