Salary Academic Level D ($170,080 - $187,373) + 17% super
Based at the City campus, but may be required to travel to other University campuses
About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished academic to join our School and support our strategic focus on responsible computing at the intersection of information and people. This broad area may include, though is not limited to ensuring equitable information access for minoritised communities, enabling collaborative design and understanding of information systems, and mitigating information-related harms. The successful candidate will have a background in information science, information systems, information retrieval, or human-computer interaction, with a demonstrated focus on how people engage with information in meaningful, ethical, and inclusive ways.
Furthermore, as an Associate Professor you will:
- Provide academic leadership and contribute to excellence in both teaching and research.
- Play a key role in shaping the School's direction through innovative scholarship, curriculum development, and engagement with the broader community, industry, and professional sectors.
- Lead high-impact research, enhance student learning outcomes, and contribute to national and international academic conversations.
- Undertake significant service and leadership roles within the School, College, University, and relevant external bodies.
To be successful for this position, you will have:
- Nationally recognised research track record in information interaction related to responsible computing. The research must include the ways in which people and information intersect, and responsible computing in this context is broadly defined. Examples include but are not limited to information access for minoritised groups, collaborative creation and assessment of information systems, information ethics, and preventing information related harms. This track record should include substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets and emerging international recognition.
- Experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort, manage funded research projects.
- Demonstrated positive impact of research or teaching through engagement with industry, community or not for profit partners, policymakers, or media.
- Demonstrated ability to lead improvement of academic standards, including implementing best practice teaching strategies and dissemination of innovative practices.
- Extensive experience in attracting and supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a University.
- Demonstrated high level of collegiality, including supporting development of junior team members, ability to problem solve as part of a team and ability to work well with diverse personalities and perspectives.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including ability to present research findings to a variety of academic and non-academic audiences in both written and verbal form, and to communicate persuasively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching and research work.
Qualifications
Mandatory: PhD in relevant field.
Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role. Maintaining a valid Working With Children Check is a condition of employment at RMIT.
