Skills/Qualifications
- possession of a postdoctoral degree (habilitation). In the case of a foreign degree awarded by an authorised institution operating outside the EU, OECD or EFTA and not recognised as equivalent on the basis of international agreements (Legal basis: Article 328(3) of the Act of 20 July 2018. Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2023 item 742) - nostrification of the diploma, or a certificate of commencement of the nostrification process,
- Experience in conducting structural studies and optoelectronic properties of multilayer semiconductor epitaxial structures and semiconductor materials with modified near-surface regions (laser processing and ion implantation);
- Ability to: plan and perform X-ray structural examinations and diagnostics of defect structures using powder and high-resolution diffraction, knowledge of the kinematic and dynamic theory of X-ray diffraction is recommended; operate a diffractometer and know the Rietveld method of refining crystal structure parameters; simulate and analyze X-ray diffraction images of defect structures containing various types of defects of varying size and concentration; programming and knowledge of one of the following programs: Octave, Matlab or Mathematica;
- Experience in analyzing diffraction images obtained using transmission electron microscopy and working with supporting software such as CaRine and GATAN. Ability to characterize the microstructure of materials using advanced techniques: high-resolution electron diffraction (HREM), electron diffraction (SAD/Dyf/CBED), and scanning transmission microscopy combined with local phase composition analysis using an X-ray detector (STEM/EDS);
- Knowledge and practical skills in the field of: modeling the structure of multi-component alloys and determining their properties within the framework of density functional theory (ab-initio calculations); experience in using one of the Materials Studio, VASP, CASTEP or Quantum Espresso software is recommended, as well as in planning and running calculations on supercomputers at the High Efficiency Computing Centre “ACK Cyfronet AGH”; atomistic modeling of materials using the classical molecular dynamics method using the LAMMPS software and graphical analysis of results using the OVITO program; modeling of physical phenomena using the finite element method; knowledge of one of the following programs: COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys or OpenFOAM is recommended;
Specific Requirements
- Internships/research fellowships completed at recognised research centres, experience in organising scientific work, obtaining research funding and organising international cooperation,
- Knowledge of Polish (for equipment software operation) and an additional foreign language is desirable;
- Experience of working in an accredited laboratory;
- The ability to lead research projects carried out in collaboration with overseas centres as part of international cooperation (including, amongst other things: planning research topics for research teams, leading a team and conducting research in the field of materials engineering);

Additional comments
1. The basic remuneration provided for the Employee is PLN 8010 (eight thousand and ten). The rate is specified in the remuneration regulations of the A. Krupkowski Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences of 15 December 2023, hereinafter referred to as the ‘remuneration regulations’.
In addition, the Employer applies the rates specified in Article 91a of the Act of 30 April 2010 on the Polish Academy of Sciences (Journal of Laws 2020.1796, as amended), hereinafter referred to as the ‘Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences’. In accordance with the provision, the minimum monthly basic remuneration in a scientific unit of the Academy for a researcher may not be lower than 50% of the remuneration specified in the provisions issued on the basis of Article 137(2) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, except that for:
a) a professor – it shall be not less than 100%,
b) an institute professor – it shall be not less than 83%,
c) an assistant professor – it shall be not less than 73%
– of this remuneration.
In accordance with Appendix 1 to the remuneration regulations, ‘monthly remuneration rates for academic staff’, the remuneration range for the position of assistant is from the rate specified in Article 91a of the Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences to thirteen times that amount.
2. In addition, the Employer pays the following allowances on top of the basic salary:
a) pursuant to Article 98(1)(1) of the Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences, research staff of the Polish Academy of Sciences are entitled to a length-of-service allowance amounting to 3% of their monthly basic salary after 3 years of service, increasing by 1% in each subsequent year, up to 20% after 20 years of service,
b) pursuant to Article 98(1)(1) of the Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences, employees of the Academy are entitled to jubilee awards for long service,
c) other allowances to the basic salary, in the amount specified in the remuneration regulations.
