Associate Professor of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor of Chemistry beginning as early as Fall 2026. The search is open to all areas of chemistry. The Department has keen and developing interests in areas of sustainability and environmental science in support of human health and global well-being, particularly the development and application of modern analytical methodology to trace atmospheric constituents, priority pollutants in air/water/soil and biota, heavy metals and radionuclides, and to macromolecular questions in human health. The Department offers a growing and popular Environmental and Green Chemistry Master’s program designed for students pursuing careers in the environmental and sustainability fields. Other existing strengths of the department include biomolecular chemistry and computation, materials synthesis and characterization, as well as theoretical/computational research that provides significant insight into experimentally relevant systems.

Successful candidates will have an established research program and a demonstrated record of publications and external funding. In addition, two high performance computing clusters are available to Chemistry faculty, and several laboratories within Chemistry and the School of Engineering and Applied Science have established, state-of-the art laser spectroscopy facilities available for collaborative use. Our department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, and our dynamic faculty have collaborative programs on campus with the GW Medical Center, the Katzen Cancer Research Center, and the GW Institute for Neuroscience.

Our strategic and central location in Washington, DC facilitates engagement with prestigious research laboratories such as the National Institutes of Health, Naval Research Laboratory, Children’s National Medical Center, National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Food and Drug Administration, the DC Center for AIDS Research and the Smithsonian Institution.
