Associate Professor of Educational Leadership—PK-12 Education

The Department of Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a full-time, tenured, or tenure-eligible Associate Professor of Educational Leadership (PK-12 Education) beginning August 10, 2026 (position # 003045). The position will primarily serve the Master of School Administration and the EdD program in Educational Leadership, which leads to North Carolina principal and superintendent licensure. Graduate-level coursework may be delivered in various formats, including face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and occasionally fully online. Teaching responsibilities may include classes related to school leadership, operations, policy, curriculum and supervision, and law.

Responsibilities.

Teach courses in the Department of Educational Leadership primarily in the field of PK-12 school improvement, accountability, and equity; demonstrate scholarly productivity in research; support the scholarly work of students (serve on and chair dissertations); seek external funds to support research activities; provide service to the field and profession; and participate in program, department, college, and university service.

Qualifications.

We seek a faculty colleague to join a high-achieving, dynamic, and collaborative Cato College of Education and Department of Educational Leadership, who is committed to developing professionals through Equity, Excellence, and Engagement. The Cato College of Education and the Educational Leadership Department strives to develop a deep understanding of and respect for all students and colleagues. Therefore, we encourage applications from professionals who may help us achieve these goals. Required qualifications include (1) an earned doctorate in Educational Leadership/Administration or a closely related field from an accredited university, (2) a demonstrated commitment to PK-12 school and district leadership through professional experience, scholarship, and service, (3) a demonstrated track record of active research in areas associated with educational leadership, and (4) experience teaching graduate-level courses.

Preferred qualifications include: (1) leadership and/or teaching experience in a PK-12 school and/or district setting, (2) evidence of grants or grant applications in the field of education or educational leadership, and (3) familiarity with the use of online instructional technologies.

Setting.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte received Carnegie R1 status in 2025 and offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 32,000 students. Charlotte is among the fastest-growing large metropolitan areas in the United States and remains one of the New South’s most beautiful cities. The university is also fast-growing with new facilities and infrastructure, including the light rail line to uptown and south Charlotte. Charlotte offers a vast array of cultural and recreational opportunities along with outstanding medical and community services to meet the interests and needs of a diverse population. In addition, Charlotte is two hours from the Blue Ridge Mountains and four hours from the Carolina beaches.
