Position Announcement
Serve as the Chief Faculty Affairs Officer by providing strategic leadership and coordinating practices and policies that support and promote a thriving culture of faculty life. Champion training and advancement of faculty, facilitate effective faculty recruitment, onboarding, orientation, mentorship, leadership, and training. Coordinate with various academic and campus leaders on initiatives. Oversee activities of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Faculty Life (FL); supervise various areas of Academic Affairs under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Chief Faculty Affairs Officer by providing strategic leadership and coordinating practices and policies that support and promote a thriving faculty culture. Champion the training and advancement of faculty across the university and establish a structure for faculty career and professional development.
- Create and maintain a vision and strategic plan for the training and development of faculty, including directing activities for CTL, RO, and FL. Assess faculty members' needs, assist them in integrating new learning technologies and teaching methods to engage students in effective learning and promoting student success.
- Collaborate with and support deans and academic departments in the recruitment and retention of highly qualified faculty.
- Work closely with Human Resources in faculty recruitment, faculty contracts and onboarding, and ensure adherence to faculty HR and academic policies.
- Work closely with the Provost and Director of Academic Budget to manage budget and policy compliance of faculty workload.
- Manage the faculty review program for retention, tenure and promotion, including training for faculty reviews. Supervise the Faculty Information Platform and create or revise new faculty onboarding and orientation, as well as mentorship and leadership training for current and future department chairs.
- Lead, organize and implement professional development activities for faculty members through a variety of instructional modalities to help them improve. Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement programs, including learning management systems and effective faculty relations.
- Oversee the distribution of resources to support the development of the instructional community as well as the goals of the unit. Manage the departmental budget, ensuring cost-effective management of the unit.
- Supervise support staff within the area (CTL, etc.). Oversee the improvement of teaching, learning, and research at scale at the University.
- Maintain currency of new developments in learning and teaching; contribute to these developments through participation and presentation within conferences, workshops, publications, etc. Represent the University at a range of external groups in relation to faculty affairs and networks with groups and individuals to lead campus collaborations in the scholarship of faculty culture of life at UT.
- Liaise with Faculty Senate, associate deans and other dean designees to advance all initiatives relating to faculty affairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in any discipline represented at the university
- Minimum seven years of university teaching experience
- Current or previously tenured at the minimum rank of associate professor
- Minimum three years' academic administrative experience as department chair, associate dean, dean or executive director
- Evidence of innovative teaching practices
- Background in managing faculty experiences, including mentoring, faculty evaluation processes, onboarding, leadership and professional development
- Demonstrated background knowledge, skills, and experience in effective pedagogy/andragogy methods and assessment in higher education to promote effective, efficient, and engaged learning.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and scholarly activity, as well as current issues in higher education teaching and faculty affairs.
- Demonstrated background knowledge, skills, and experience in various engaged learning approaches, integrated advanced learning technologies, associated software, etc.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to manage a budget.
- Experience in faculty development efforts and working individually with faculty members and administrators to promote excellence in teaching and learning, as well as promote and cultivate a positive faculty culture; effective and positive supervisory skills across a large unit, with the ability to collaborate and achieve objectives.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt executive staff position. Annual salary of $120,000-$135,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of January 2026.
