The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Facilities Management (AVP). Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Facilities Management plays a leadership role in supporting teaching, research, and student-life activities through the implementation of a comprehensive, strategic, and financially sustainable approach to developing, enhancing, and sustaining the physical plant in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders across the College. The AVP of Facilities Management is responsible for developing and staffing an integrated, efficient, mission-focused facilities organization that demonstrates a commitment to client service in all it does. Serving as an institutional leader in developing TCNJ's physical environment, the AVP of Facilities Management will collaborate with senior academic and administrative leadership and will engage with students, faculty, and staff to support TCNJ's mission and will cultivate and sustain cooperative working relationships with community and state stakeholders as well as with relevant national groups.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate Vice President for Facilities Management will:
- Provide strategic leadership, planning, and oversight for all Facilities units, including Buildings & Grounds, Maintenance Trades, Construction & Renovation, Environmental Health & Safety, and Custodial Services.
- Lead the development and implementation of facility management policies, capital plans, preventative maintenance programs, and campus infrastructure improvements.
- Oversee the execution of capital and deferred maintenance projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with institutional goals.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to safety, environmental standards, labor requirements, and building codes.
- Advance campus sustainability initiatives, energy management strategies, and long-term environmental goals.
- Partner closely with key stakeholders - including senior leadership, academic and administrative departments, and external contractors - to assess needs, coordinate work, and ensure high-quality service.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, monitor financial performance, and advocate for resources needed to support campus operations.
- Lead, mentor, and assess Facilities staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
- Serve as the College's primary point of contact for emergency response related to facilities, storm preparation, and infrastructure disruptions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, facilities management, construction management, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in facilities management, operations, capital projects, or related areas.
- Demonstrated success managing complex facilities portfolios, including supervision of large, diverse teams.
- Strong understanding of building systems, maintenance operations, capital planning, and construction management.
- Proven ability to lead organizational change, improve processes, and implement data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and contributing to a campus culture grounded in service excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience working in higher education or a similarity complex environment.
- Familiarity with sustainability and energy management initiatives, LEED standards, and long-term campus planning.
- Professional certifications such as:
- Certified Facilities Manager (CFM)
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
