Asst Dir Community Engagement

Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Community Partnerships promotes community outreach and cultivates partnerships with external individuals, groups, and organizations, serving as a liaison with campus and community partners. The incumbent will assist in developing and directing programs and activities that engage community and campus efforts while also designing, implementing, and assessing partner programming. This position is the central manager of the university’s GivePulse engagement platform.

Job Description

Examples of Work Performed

  • Leads the adoption and integration of GivePulse to track, manage, and increase collaboration and engagement between campus and the broader community.
  • Directs and supports a group of undergraduate ambassadors in conceptualizing and implementing community-based projects and initiatives.
  • Convenes and facilitates regular meetings, including Community Connection Meetings, with community organizations and representatives to support relationship-building, collaboration, and alignment of community engagement efforts.
  • Manages the Partnership Development Fund to support community partnership projects, including coordinating funding cycles, supporting applicants, and tracking funded activities.
  • Coordinates the planning, coordination, and implementation of large-scale service events, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Afternoon of Service, in collaboration with campus and community partners.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with campus departments, organizations, and external community partners to promote, strengthen, and support student engagement and community engagement activities.
  • Creates and utilizes assessment to evaluate programs and initiatives and uses data collected to enhance current or develop new initiatives.
  • Designs and facilitates presentations and trainings on effective community engagement and partnership practices, including offering classes on community engagement at the discretion of the Director.
  • Manages and maintains assigned budgets for community partnership initiatives. • Assists with identifying and securing resources to support community engagement initiatives and growth of the office.
  • Participates in local, state, and national networks and attends conferences and trainings to stay informed of and advance best practices in civic and community engagement at the university.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Job Responsibilities

These essential functions include but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Serve as the primary university administrator for the GivePulse engagement platform, including system customization, data management, reporting, and support for campus and community users.
  • Develop, sustain, and steward reciprocal partnerships with community organizations and campus stakeholders, serving as a central liaison to support meaningful, ethical, and impactful community engagement.
  • Plan, implement, and assess community engagement programs and initiatives, including large-scale service events, partnership-based projects, and leadership development opportunities to support university engagement.
  • Lead, supervise, and manage graduate and undergraduate student employees and ambassadors, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback while supporting student leadership and professional development.
  • Manages and maintains assigned budgets.

An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
