Asst/Assoc Professor of Practice - Sociology
Position Description
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work in the College of Art & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Assistant/Associate/Professor of Practice position in Sociology to begin 09/01/2026.
While appointed to this position, you will accrue vacation and will be required to report leave monthly following TTU's Operating Policy 70.01 and TTU System Regulation 07.12. Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Research Professor title designates an individual appointed, usually full time, to a research position. In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in the area of research.
As a faculty member in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work, in the School of Arts and Sciences in Lubbock, TX, you will be expected to:
- Contribute to the teaching mission of the department in the realm of online education
- Provide appropriate service to the department, college, and university
Faculty Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Sociology or a highly related field from an appropriately regionally or nationally accredited university upon time of appointment. If clarification is needed, please email the search chair.
- A record of consistent instructional effort in
- Teaching excellence and/or
- Improving pedagogical skills in one or more of the following:
- Introduction to Sociology
- Sociological theory
- Research methods
- Social Statistics
- Criminology classes, or other sociological electives.
- Experience as a doctoral student or formal instruction outside the classroom may fulfill this criterion.
- A record of teaching online classes, either via synchronous or asynchronous means. Please be clear in your application about your history of teaching online classes, including modality, type of student, and size of classes.
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with a variety of students, including first-generation college students, those with military backgrounds, and/or non-traditional students.
