Cheyney University of Pennsylvania (CU) is seeking a Faculty Athletic Director. This is a fulltime (100% FTE) position and is classified as Faculty in the APSCUF collective bargaining unit. The incumbent directs and administers intercollegiate athletics on behalf of Cheyney University and provides quality educational and student athletic experiences as part of a comprehensive effort to foster student-athletes' success. The position is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating a comprehensive athletics program for both men and women, providing leadership to a staff coaches, trainers and administrative staff. The Director is expected to work in collaboration with University Advancement to ensure fundraising goals are established and met, to promote and market programs, and to develop funding initiatives for innovative programs and facilities. The position of Director of Athletics is a twelve (12) month position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Establishes, maintains, and implements policies for the administration of the Department of Athletics.
- Implements athletic programs and policies within the guidelines of the University and other non-conference entities.
- Evaluate the total athletic program to ensure its compliance with division and/or university policy.
- Recruits and provides for the selection, organization, and supervision of the staff, and delegate responsibilities to ensure efficient and productive operation of all administrative, business, fiscal and athletic activities of the department.
- Sets forth the department’s funding requirements and supervise the overall management and control of the approved fiscal year operating budget for all men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports.
- Ensures compliance with gender equity, Title IX, and ethnic diversity.
- Works closely with university advancement and assigned personnel to develop and implement a comprehensive fund-raising plan and participate in the implementation of a marketing plan for intercollegiate athletics.
- Organizes, directs and participates in activities which will promote the prestige of the university and the athletic department.Serves on key university committees and attend conferences and professional meetings as determined by the president.
- Completion and submission of annual professional membership applications and reports.
- Works directly with all coaches in the administration of their programs (i.e., field/facility use, transportation, medical clearance, reports, budget preparation, ordering supplies and equipment).Evaluates coaches and staff.
- Oversees the men and women’s student athlete recruiting programs.
- Oversees intercollegiate rules compliance (i.e. eligibility certification, monitoring of transfer rules, audits, reporting, and investigations) with governing body (i.e. national association, conference and/or institution.
- Oversees intercollegiate academic standards (i.e. eligibility rules, progress-toward-degree, GPA minimums, term by term eligibility checks, degree audits, required credit-hour completion, academic advising, tutoring, and study hall requirements).
- OverseesCompiles student-athletes’ operations manual for the University’s Department of Athletics.
- Schedules all athletic teams for competition and contracts with each institution with assistance of coaches.
- Prepares the yearly schedule of athletic events including summer camps.
- Arranges trips, meals, and transportation for all intercollegiate programs with assistance of coaches.Hires game officials for all intercollegiate contests.
- Oversees game management for ticket takers, sellers, and other personnel necessary for concessions at athletic events with assistance of coaches.
- Maintains all records related to intercollegiate activities.
- Coordinates the athletic awards program and athletic banquets.
- Coordinates purchases of athletic equipment.
- Oversees the use and care of athletic facilities and athletic equipment.
- Plan and initiate the development and upgrading of facilities and capital projects.
- Coordinates special projects.
- Additional duties as assigned by the executive leadership at the university.
Requirements
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
Must have a minimum of master’s degree in Athletic Administration, Business, Public Administration or Physical Education with a minimum of 5 years of successful athletic administration experience in a sports related organization or equivalent experience. Applicant must have coaching and/or administration experience at the collegiate level. Applicant must also have proven fund-raising experience.
