Role Summary
The Aviation Maintenance Instructor is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track professional staff position with teaching responsibilities in Aviation Maintenance. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in our FAA-approved Part 147 program at the VU Aviation Technology Center in Indianapolis. The instructor must have extensive general aviation knowledge and a demeanor that fosters a good learning environment for both traditional and non-traditional students.
Responsibilities
Instruction & Program Support:
- Teach courses in the FAA-approved Part 147 Aviation Maintenance program.
- Provide academic instruction, ensuring course content meets FAA and departmental standards.
- Maintain a demeanor that fosters a good learning environment for both traditional and non-traditional students.
- Develop and update syllabi for courses as needed.
- Use a variety of proven methods of engagement and assessment that facilitate student mastery of course content.
- Provide students with constructive and corrective feedback.
- Evaluate student learning by creating and applying course competencies and accurately evaluating student progress.
- Participate in program assessment and continuous improvement efforts.
Administrative & Student Support:
- Advise students on course selection, academic performance, and career paths.
- Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation.
- Participate in departmental meetings and other required university activities.
- Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for assignments, announcements, grades, and feedback.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
Essential:
- Licensure: Must possess an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience.
- Experience: General aviation maintenance experience is required.
- Compliance: A history of working cohesively and cooperatively with the FAA is required.
- Knowledge: Extensive general aviation knowledge of light and mid-sized piston and turbine engine aircraft.
Supplemental Skills / Experience (Preferred):
- An Associate Degree and/or Bachelor Degree is preferred.
- Applicants should indicate specifically which courses they are interested in teaching.
