The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine (AUBFM) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in basic and translational Pharmacology and Drug Discovery or Toxicology.
Applications for higher-level (associate professor or professor) positions may be considered based on the experience and achievements of the applicant.
We seek an innovative investigator with an independent research program. In toxicology, it will focus on the mechanisms, prediction, detection, and prevention of toxicity associated with drugs or environmental toxicants, combining rigorous basic/mechanistic toxicology with a clear translational perspective, advancing fundamental understanding of chemical-induced injury, and developing approaches that can improve the prediction, monitoring, and prevention of toxicity in humans.
In pharmacology, the research program will bridge fundamental mechanisms of disease with the identification, validation, and pharmacological development of therapeutic interventions.
The successful candidate will join an active group of researchers in the Department and the Faculty of Medicine with established research programs in cardiac remodeling, cancer and inflammation, pharmacogenetics/toxicogenetics, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Opportunities also exist for multidisciplinary collaboration in areas such as medicinal chemistry, cell biology, neuroscience, immunology, microbiology, bioinformatics, and clinical research.
In addition, The Department is currently developing a Center for Bioequivalence Studies, creating further opportunities for translational research, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, drug evaluation and development, and partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry.
The new faculty member will be expected to establish an independent research program while developing collaborations that leverage these existing strengths, contribute to the advancement of toxicology, pharmacology, drug discovery, and/or drug safety research, and participate in the teaching and mentoring of graduate students, medical students, and other trainees.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree appropriate to the field and must have had at least 2 years of postdoctoral research training, with evidence of research productivity as a primary investigator.
Interested applicants should submit:
- a curriculum vitae,
- a letter of intent explaining why they wish to apply for the position and how their background and experience align with its requirements,
- a personal statement outlining their previous accomplishments in research, teaching, and service, together with their future plans in these areas, and
- the names and contact information of four referees, preferably at the rank of Professor.
Applications should be submitted to Dr. Ramzi Sabra, MD, MHPE, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. E-mail submission is preferred. Please send to: pharmacology@aub.edu.lb, with a copy to the Dean's Office at the Faculty of Medicine at: aub-fm@aub.edu.lb.
Deadline: November 30, 2026
