This position is located at UMBC’s branch campus in Rockville, Maryland at The Universities at Shady Grove.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As full-time teaching faculty, the incumbent will be responsible for teaching classes related to bioinformatics in the TLST program such as statistics, translational bioinformatics, and life science software applications. In addition to teaching, the incumbent will be responsible for a modest level of administrative duties primarily related to the development and management of a bioinformatics concentration within the TLST B.S. degree program. Other administrative duties include assisting with student recruitment and retention activities; advising students including guidance on internship opportunities; and assisting with the recruitment and support of bioinformatics-related adjunct faculty, if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Proficiency in common programming/scripting languages (ex: R, Python, C++, Perl) is required and preferably a knowledge of open source genome assembly software tools (ex: SISRS and TIGR assembler). Teaching experience in the classroom and/or on-line is required. Experience working with community college and transfer students as well as the use of innovative teaching strategies is desired but not required. Candidates should also have strong organizational, management, and interpersonal skills and enjoy working in transdisciplinary, dynamic environments due to the administrative duties of the position.
