Primary Responsibility

Full time faculty positions begin in July 2026 with a 30-credit hour (170 day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of lower-division biology courses such as General Biology I, Human Anatomy I and II, and Microbiology. This candidate will also be responsible for building and teaching two upper-division cell and molecular biology courses. Two-thirds of the expected teaching load will be taught at the Leadville campus (lower-division courses) and one-third at the Breckenridge campus (upper-division courses). It is expected that this position will teach in a variety of modalities (in-person, asynchronous, remote synchronous, or hybrid) to meet the needs of our college system. Teaching in other disciplines may be an option. Candidates eligible to be credentialed in additional natural sciences may be given preference. Weekend and evening teaching may be required.

Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include teaching course load as assigned, evaluate courses and assess student learning, meet established course, program and learning outcomes, comply with guidelines and policies, maintain office hours per established standards, develop rapport with students, assist with and participate in advising, orientation and registration activities.

CMC Faculty are expected to engage in service activities such as campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentor peers, participate in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:

A minimum of a master’s degree is required. A master’s degree in biology or a related field, or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Biology or a related field is strongly preferred. However, individuals possessing a master’s degree with significant research and/or industry experience in cell and molecular biology are encouraged to apply. Higher education teaching experience is strongly preferred. Candidates who meet CMC credentialing standards in a secondary discipline (e.g., Physical Sciences) may be given preference. Salary range: $79,902.51 - $97,321.19 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Pet insurance, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, annual & sick time, mental health resources, healthy lifestyle benefits, affordable transitional housing may be available to the successful candidate based on eligibility and availability, relocation if applicable. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties

The following responsibilities and activities are listed in order to maintain consistency in the application of expectations and align job duties with evaluation and promotion procedures.

CMC Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and enhance learning. Service activities such as campus and college committees, participate in relevant projects, mentor peers, participate in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.

All faculty acknowledge that final payment of any contract may be withheld until submission of grades is complete.

1.A.1 Teaching Responsibilities

CMC faculty members are expected to meet the educational needs of our communities by fulfilling the following responsibilities:

  • Teach course-load as assigned
  • Evaluate courses and student learning
  • Meet course, program, and institutional learning outcomes established by CMC
  • Comply with department guidelines and college policies
  • Maintain at least five office hours per week to meet with students
  • Develop rapport with students that is professional and encourages teacher/student communication
  • Assist with academic advising of students
  • Participate in orientation and registration activities

1.A.2 Scholarly and Creative Activities

CMC faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and improve learning. Examples of these activities may include:

  • Continuing certification in discipline (if applicable)
  • Graduate coursework
  • Continuing education
  • Sharing expertise within discipline (e.g., grant writing, publishing, exhibitions, performances, presentations, conferences)
  • Attending campus and college-wide trainings and in-services
  • Conducting research
  • Developing/advancing instructional technology
  • Other activities approved by faculty member and Assistant Dean of Instruction

1.A.3 Service Activities

For CMC to best serve its diverse communities, faculty members are expected to participate in a variety of organizations and committees. Service activities may include the following:

  • Serve on campus and college-wide committees
  • Represent discipline on state, national, and international levels
  • Participate in relevant projects with administrative approval
  • Mentor peers
  • Modify, develop, and maintain curriculum
  • Assist with assessment activities (e.g., develop learning outcomes and assessment projects for courses, disciplines, and programs)
  • Assist with program review
  • Advise student organizations
  • Participate in recruiting/retention activities
  • Attend and participate in program, discipline, in-service, and campus meetings
  • Develop promotion portfolio
  • Participate in community service activities (as appropriate)

1.A.4 Organizational Relationships

CMC recognizes that student learning is greatly enhanced by successful collaboration among faculty, staff, and administration. Regarding CMC’s reporting structure, faculty members:

  • Are under the general direction of the site school discipline dean or designee;
  • Cooperate with other program faculty;
  • Work with Student Services personnel in advisement of students; and
  • Work cooperatively with Academic Services, Student Services, and Administrative Services personnel

Supervision of the Position

This position will report to the Dean of the School of the discipline.

Supervisory Responsibility

The position may supervise staff positions and/or student employees.

Special Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a background check will be required as well as motor vehicles records report when applicable. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. May require travel and evening and/or weekend hours.

Working Conditions

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
