Regular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Division Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
Regular Faculty are required to serve a provisional period from the date of employment until the completion of employment under three consecutive full year regular contracts.
This position may require working in virtual, weekend, evening, or various campus locations. Successful candidate must be willing to teach concurrent enrollment both on PPSC campuses and in local area high schools.
Position start date August 2026. The required teaching schedule is August to May. The required pay schedule is September to August.
There are two full-time positions available.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed Master's degree in biology or related field ORcompleted Master’s degree in any field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the related degree area, ORcompleted advanced degree to practice human or animal medicine. (Related degree areas: Biology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Anatomy, Physiology, Cellular Biology, Cancer Biology, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology, Genetics, Immunology, Zoology, Botany, Ecology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Biotechnology, Developmental Biology, Biomedical Engineering).
- Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in biology.
- Include a recent student course evaluation in which you were the instructor/faculty member of the course. Please remove student's personal identifiable information.
- Demonstrated student-centered focus and experience with program and curriculum development.
- Demonstrated ability to work with underrepresented populations in successful efforts to close the achievement gap.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Research or non-teaching work experience in the field.
- Three or more years of post-secondary teaching experience in biology, including at a community college.
- Demonstrated understanding of the mission and purpose of a community college, including equity-minded practice and inclusive excellence.
- Experience working at a Minority Serving Institution or in programs aimed at encouraging access, retention, and completion of diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated dedication to interactive, learner-centered teaching methods.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing various pedagogical approaches, including high-impact practices.
- Experience with assessment of academic programs.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of diversity and the ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, cultures, and learning styles, as well as students with disabilities or varied levels of academic preparation.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.
