SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Rowan College at Burlington County, a comprehensive College in New Jersey's largest county, is seeking qualified applicants for a Biology Instructor position in the Division of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Full-time faculty at Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) are the foundation of the innovative, high-quality, and affordable educational experience provided to students through RCBC's academic programs.

Full-time faculty perform a number of critical duties, detailed within the Collective Bargaining Agreement and between the Board of Trustees of Rowan College at Burlington County and the Faculty Association. Full-time faculty engage in both teaching and non-teaching duties, including responsibilities for which they are compensated as part of their base salary.

The Instructor will teach a base load of 15 credits per semester, as well as engage in non-teaching duties.

Faculty provide an Annual Performance Report detailing both teaching and non-teaching duties, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board of Trustees of Rowan College at Burlington County and the Faculty Association.

Biology instructors are responsible for preparing and delivering engaging and comprehensive instruction in various college-level biology courses. Courses may include introductory biology for majors and/or non-majors, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, ecology, and biostatistics. Instructors will teach laboratory skills, experimental design, and scientific writing, with an emphasis on independent or small-group research projects. Additional responsibilities include adhering to state and federal guidelines for lab safety, as well as the guidelines of Rowan College at Burlington County.

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality lessons in both lecture and laboratory formats.
  • Teach courses such as introductory biology for majors and/or non-majors, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, ecology, and biostatistics.
  • Teach laboratory skills, experimental design, and scientific writing with emphasis on independent or small group research projects.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee and mentor undergraduate research projects.
  • Guide students in evaluating primary scientific literature and developing strong scientific writing skills.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues to review and update course content and instructional methodologies.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and college-wide initiatives.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

Education Required

  • A master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A doctorate is preferred.

Experience Required

  • At least two years of teaching experience in the discipline at the college level.
  • At least one year of experience in the use of instructional technologies.

Preferred Qualification

  • Biology curriculum design and development.
  • At least one year of industrial experience involving the applications of Biology.
  • Certified in Blackboard or willing to teach online.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  • The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Use of learning-centered teaching methodologies.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to teach and remain current in the field, including both traditional curricula and alternative methods of delivery.
  • Skills and experiences in teaching varied forms of delivery, including face-to-face and remote instruction. Familiarity with Blackboard is a plus.
  • Experience developing and implementing programmatic assessment tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission of providing instruction to students of diverse abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Active participation in the College community.
  • Availability to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article Nineteen, Instructional Workweek.
