Job Description
The Bonner Program Director/Associate Director for Center for Community Engagement plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing Stetson University's commitment to creating opportunities for student learning through community impact. This dual-role position dedicates 20 hours per week to directing the Bonner Program and 20 hours per week to advancing the Center for Community Engagement's broader mission. Serving as a member of the Center for Community Engagement leadership team, the Bonner Program Director/Associate Director for Center for Community Engagement provides strategic oversight of the nationally recognized, four-year Bonner service scholarship program. Core responsibilities include leading the developmental curriculum for Bonner Scholars and Leaders, supervising professional and student staff, managing and stewarding community partnerships, overseeing program budgets exceeding $400,000, and serving as Stetson's primary liaison to the Bonner Foundation. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
Bonner Program Leadership (20 hours per week)
- Direct and oversee all aspects of the Bonner Program, including strategic planning, vision-setting, budget management (operational budget, summer internship funds, community impact fund, student employment budget totaling over $400,000), and program evaluation
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve a four-year developmental curriculum based on the Bonner Foundation's Common Commitments: community building, diversity, civic engagement, social justice, international perspective, and spiritual exploration
- Lead recruitment, selection, and enrollment processes for new Bonner Scholars and Leaders, including strategic planning for cohort composition and program growth
- Provide direct supervision and mentorship to the Assistant Director for Bonner Program, graduate assistants, and student leaders, including performance evaluation and professional development
- Oversee planning and execution of Bonner cornerstone activities including the First-Year Trip, Sophomore Exchange, Junior Capstone projects/presentations, and Senior Presentations of Learning, ensuring alignment with program learning outcomes
- Provide strategic advising and coaching to Bonner Scholars and Leaders on high-level academic integration, career planning, graduate school preparation, and leadership development
- Build and maintain program culture through visioning, community-building initiatives, and proactive engagement with student and stakeholder feedback
- Develop strategic community partnership strategy that identifies high-impact placement opportunities aligned with student learning goals and community capacity-building needs
- Serve as primary liaison to the Bonner Foundation by preparing annual reports, attending national directors/coordinators meetings, and leading participation in Foundation initiatives such as national research studies, the Racial Justice Community Fund, and national convenings
- Design and oversee assessment framework for the Bonner Program, including learning outcomes measurement, program evaluation, and continuous improvement processes
- Identify and implement opportunities for Bonner training and enrichment activities to be accessible to all Stetson students, advancing social justice education campus-wide
- Lead fundraising and development efforts for the Bonner Program, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and stewardship
Center for Community Engagement Leadership (20 hours per week)
- Design and implement high-impact community-engaged learning programs in collaboration with campus partners including the Cross-Cultural Center, Center for Dialogue & Civic Action, the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life, and the University Honors Program
- Serve as a consultant on community-engaged learning pedagogy and community partnership development to academic departments seeking to incorporate community engagement into courses or programs
- Develop and maintain strategic community partnerships with nonprofit and government organizations, including high-level relationship management, partnership visioning, risk management, and contracting, with focus on partnerships advancing racial equity
- Collaborate with faculty to develop campus-community partnerships that connect academic curriculum to community-based learning and research opportunities
- Connect community-engaged students and faculty to high-impact opportunities such as the Take Action Institute, Stetson Showcase, and national fellowships
- Participate in strategic planning, staff meetings, training, retreats, and professional development as a key member of the Center for Community Engagement leadership team
- Lead initiatives that advance the Center for Community Engagement's racial equity goals, especially where those goals intersect with community partners' initiatives
- Contribute to departmental assessment and evaluation strategy, utilizing tools that measure student learning outcomes, community impact, and program effectiveness
- Represent the Center for Community Engagement on division of Campus Life and Student Success initiatives and campus-wide committees that enhance academic mission and relate to community engagement and student success
- Maintain knowledge of national community engagement trends, best practices, and innovative program models through professional development and national networks to inform continuous improvement of programs and services
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role include:
- Advanced communication and management skills appropriate for supervising professional staff, student employees, and managing complex community partnerships
- Deep understanding of community engagement principles, service-learning pedagogy, and volunteer management best practices
- Knowledge of college student development theory and ability to apply developmental frameworks to program design
- Budget management and fiscal oversight experience with multi-fund operations
- Strategic planning and program evaluation skills, including ability to develop and implement assessment frameworks
- Cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse constituents including students, faculty, staff, community partners, and external stakeholders
- Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Proficiency with relevant technology platforms including student engagement management systems, databases, and communication tools

Required Qualifications:
This position requires:
- Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, educational leadership, community development, social work, nonprofit management, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in community engagement, service-learning, student affairs, or volunteer/internship management programs in higher education setting
- Demonstrated experience supervising professional staff and student employees
- Proven track record managing budgets and fiscal operations
- Experience developing and maintaining community partnerships with nonprofit organizations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage diverse audiences
- Commitment to social justice and demonstrated ability to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends for programs and events

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University's auto insurance carrier.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Direct experience with the Bonner Foundation network or similar national service-scholarship programs
- Experience designing and implementing community-engaged learning curricula or programs
- Background in nonprofit capacity-building or organizational development
- Grant writing and grant management experience
- Experience with community-based research or participatory action research methodologies
- Experience working with racially and socioeconomically diverse student populations
- Familiarity with assessment tools and learning outcome frameworks such as AAC&U's LEAP outcomes
Work Environment:
The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and community partners. This position involves substantial computer work, collaborative meetings, and occasional off-campus travel for site visits and conferences. The position requires flexibility to attend and facilitate programs, meetings, and events scheduled during evenings and weekends (with compensatory time arrangements made within the same week). Some positions may be eligible for flexible work arrangements subject to departmental needs and approval. Work involves regular participation in campus events, community gatherings, and professional conferences. The role requires the ability to navigate between administrative office work and active engagement in field-based community settings.
Pay Grade:
6
Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time.
