Brown Center Visiting Teacher-Scholar in Writing Center Studies
Brown Center Visiting Teacher-Scholar in Writing Center Studies
Stetson University invites applications for a full-time Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in Writing Center Studies. We seek a Fellow to support the Director of the Stetson University Writing Center as they develop and implement innovative, embedded, and sustainable initiatives aligned with the University's Quality Enhancement Plan, which focuses on information literacy and artificial intelligence. While student support for writing at Stetson is grounded in established practices-such as robust peer tutoring and comprehensive faculty development-we are especially interested in candidates with experience in emerging pedagogies that connect writing, information literacy, and AI. The Fellow will contribute to both new and ongoing initiatives that advance these intersecting areas. The Fellow will be housed primarily in the Writing Center, where they will engage in administrative, programmatic, and developmental work. Teaching responsibilities will be based in the Department of English.
The two-year position involves both teaching and administrative work. A 2/2 teaching load will include first year writing-intensive courses and may, at the Department's discretion, include other courses within the Fellow's specialty. Other course assignments will be decided between the Department of English and the Writing Center. The position is intended to be renewable for an additional two-year contract.
Administrative responsibilities will include helping to run the day-to-day operations of the Writing Center; developing and implementing faculty development programming; and supporting the Writing Center's leadership of tutor development and cross-campus initiatives focused on information literacy and AI.
The Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellow will receive structured mentoring from faculty peers and guidance from the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation. Professional development will include regular meetings with a mentoring team to support teaching, research, and career development; participation in workshops on evidence-based and inclusive pedagogical practices; engagement in interdisciplinary learning communities focused on writing and faculty and student success; and support for presenting at conferences and publishing peer-reviewed Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) work.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Composition/Rhetoric, Writing Studies, or Writing Center Studies (or closely related field). Candidates who are ABD are invited to apply. Applicants should have an active scholarly record and experience working with diverse student writers, program directors, Library faculty, and faculty from across disciplines. Desirable additional qualifications include TESOL/EAL and experience connecting information literacy, AI, and writing.
RESPONSIBILITIES/TEACHING LOAD
In keeping with the teacher-scholar model central to the mission of our liberal learning, this position involves teaching, research, and administration. The Fellow will teach four courses in the academic year, for a teaching load of 2/2, including courses in first year writing, junior level courses, and courses in the Fellow's specialty.
Fellows are expected to participate in professional development programs through the Brown Center during their residency. For more information on our expectations in teaching and scholarship, our tenure policies, and our support for faculty development, please see the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs website.
