Job Description Summary

The Building Coordinator is a vital member of the LGBT Center who is responsible for scheduling, planning, facilitation of events; the stewardship and caretaking of the physical LGBT Center space. Their portfolio includes duties such as: management and supervision of events with stakeholders and community partners; support student needs and provide care and/or referrals; and the supervision of student staff - among other duties directly related to the care, maintenance, and running of the building. This individual will collaborate with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to develop and execute innovative programs that promote inclusivity, education, awareness, and community building. The Building Coordinator will play a key role in the day-to-day operations as well as fostering a safe and welcoming environment while advancing the mission and values of our LGBT center.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage building and facilities reservations, including calendar, online platform management (LibCal), and scheduling of the building. This includes working with campus partners, external organizations, UPenn departments, and student groups for seamless communication and accessible satisfaction with the space
  • Supervise, schedule, and maintain the student staff for the course of the year. This includes hiring and supervision of the entire program assistant staff, and assisting with all of the relevant working groups for their team
  • Maintain the building and facilitate repairs and routine maintenance with internal and external partners for building management
  • Assist with the distribution of the LGBT Center's website, newsletter, and email communications, support marketing and social media projects, and represent the LGBT Center at campus programs, resources fairs, and admissions events
  • Work as a confidential staff member, providing one-on-one support and options-based counseling for the broader Penn community as one of the University's recognized confidential resource staff
  • Offer building support, leadership, and administrative support to LGBT Center student groups and student-led initiatives, including but not limited to QPenn week, National Coming Out Day, Trans Week of Awareness, Trans Day of Remembrance, Free Fun Fridays, and weekly Study Break Snooze
  • Represent the LGBT Center at campus programs, resources fairs, and admissions events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Nonprofit Management) and 1-2 years of equivalent/related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one year in building management facilitation - including demonstrated familiarity with Penn's reservation systems, such as LibCal
  • Strong understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, advocacy, and community needs
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in event scheduling systems, program development, event planning, and community engagement
  • Proficiency in using technology and social media for program promotion and communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders
  • Passion for creating positive change and advancing the rights and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community

$21.15 - $26.44 Hourly Rate
