Primary Purpose of the Organization:

The Division of Facilities Management functions are to design, construct, maintain and operate the physical facilities of the University. The number one objective of the department is to provide and maintain facilities that will enhance and support the mission and academic goals of the University. Our approach is centered upon providing a superior level of customer service. The primary responsibility of the organizational unit is providing cleaning, sanitizing and floor care to campus housing for approximately 1600 students.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Primary purpose of this position is to aid the Building Environmental Services management team on all matters concerning the operational aspects of the Fayetteville State University Housekeeping department. This position also provides on-site leadership to one or more teams of Housekeepers (4-10 employees), which includes: coordinating daily routine and detail cleaning; monitoring workplace safety and ensuring proper personal protective equipment is utilized.

The position provides daily routine and detail cleaning of residence hall building interior areas including but not limited to offices, lounges, restrooms, private rooms, laundry rooms, entrances, and stairways. General duties include vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalency, education and/or experience in housekeeping work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one (1) year of experience.
  • A valid driver's license. Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record, preferably five or more years of driving experience with no more than one minor at fault accident or violation in the past three years.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

Knowledge-Technical:
Advises staff of specialized cleaning and maintenance techniques and processes for use in unusual situations or problems. General knowledge of established cleaning procedures and techniques, and special applications required in assigned areas. Ability to follow a daily work schedule and observe performance of a small work group and react to situations requiring minor adjustments to routine.

Customer Service:
Recognizes potential problems in service and addresses and resolves promptly and respectfully. Ability to insist on providing high quality service for internal and external customers. Demonstrates customer focus by seeking out, understanding, and responding to the needs of both internal and external customers. Responds to customer's needs, questions and concerns in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.

Dependability/Attendance:
Ability to demonstrate dependability, which requires daily attendance. Ability to report to work daily, for a full shift, at an appropriate time. Ability to submit leave request at least 5 days in advanced as much as possible.

Planning/Organizing:
Ability to plan the daily work schedule of the staff by prioritizing the needs of the organization and implementing procedures to ensure that the tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.

Leading Work Teams:
Ability to establish expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives of on-going work for a group of employees. Ability to motivate and engage employees through effective communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intermediate knowledge of institutional or commercial custodial procedures, methods, techniques, and equipment used in a large-scale custodial operation and the ability to train staff to properly do their job function.
  • Two-three years of related experience.
  • Previous experience working as a team lead.
