Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Job Functions
The SBTDC is a not-for-profit that provides management consulting services to North Carolina privately held business owners. Our mission is to enhance the NC economy by helping privately held businesses scale their business. Duties of the Business Counselor include:
- Client Intake & Support
- Support the Regional Director with the intake process for new clients and ensure smooth onboarding
- Provide early-stage advising using Trusted Advisor techniques to build trust and support client success
- Business Planning Assistance
- Guide clients through foundational business development concepts and tools
- Assist the Director and General Business Counselors with developing business models, financial budgets, and marketing plans for clients
- Operational & Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support to the Regional Director, including meeting coordination, travel arrangements, and financial tracking
- Assist with student-led projects, event planning, and preparation of reports
- Support system reporting needs in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
- Event & Stakeholder Coordination
- Plan and support meetings and events for internal staff, the Director, and regional stakeholders
- Ensure logistics, scheduling, and communication needs are met
- Outreach & Marketing
- Support marketing efforts and outreach initiatives to increase visibility and engagement for the regional center

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
- Demonstrated financial acumen and comfort with budget development
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal team, clients and stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Self-starter with a high level of initiative and follow-through
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Work Schedule/Hours:
Position located in the Hickory office at 1990 Main Ave SE. Center hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday w/ an hour for lunch
