The Veterinary Service Center (VSC) at Stanford University provides Laboratory Animal Care and operates within the Department of Comparative Medicine. We are fully accredited by the Association for Accreditation and Assessment of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). Our vision is to pioneer in laboratory animal care, driving research innovations from bench to bedside. The Veterinary Service Center is seeking a Buyer 1 who can be responsible for performing routine procurement functions for the acquisition of commodities, equipment, components, and services.
The expected pay range for this position is $31.25 to $41.66 per hour.

Duties include:
- Review and analyze requisitions for equipment and supplies and place orders with external vendors.
- Prepare purchase orders.
- Conduct research as necessary to locate sources for supplies.
- May advise and assist departments in the selection of supplies and equipment.
- Administer contracts, assuring that terms and conditions are met within specification.
- Perform related procurement activities as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- College Degree, strongly preferred.
- Procure-to-Pay experience.
- Knowledge of Supply Chain processes.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED)
- Associates degree or equivalent experience performing duties similar to those listed above or a combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Experience with an on-line purchase requisition and purchase order system.
- Knowledge of market conditions, trade practices, sources, and lead times.
- Experience placing routine purchase orders relative to best value and reasonableness of price costing.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment to identify, clarify and resolve routine purchasing problems (e.g. resolve discrepancies on RFPs and purchase orders as they arise).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work independently, take initiative to complete duties proactively, and work under varying deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone, sit and use light/fine grasping.
- Occasionally stand, walk and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing 10 pounds or less.
- Rarely kneel, crawl, climb, twist, bend, stoop, squat, reach or work above shoulders, grasp forcefully and sort, file paperwork or parts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work occurs in a secured facility, in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
- May require working with or being in areas where hazardous materials, animal allergens and/or infectious diseases are present.
- Specific hazards include, but are not limited to: zoonosis, chemicals, pesticides, and solvents.
- Must be free of animal related allergies.
- The successful candidate will be required to complete an initial and annual Occupational Health Surveillance questionnaire and may be required to undergo a physical examination and/or immunizations.
- Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures.
- Must have a valid California Non-Commercial Class C License.
