"Canada Excellence Research Chair in Ocean Ecological Modelling"

The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (EOAS) and the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries (IOF) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver campus are recruiting for an outstanding researcher to be nominated for a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Ocean Ecological Modelling, at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with tenure. The CERC program is designed to attract world-renowned researchers. The selected candidate will be nominated for a CERC, subject to review and approval, providing up to $1M per year for eight years.

This position focuses on exploring how ocean biogeochemical cycles, ecosystems, and marine resources respond to environmental changes, including deoxygenation, acidification, and warming. The candidate should develop innovative ocean modelling and data assimilation approaches to advance science and inform policy.

The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in EOAS and IOF, with collaboration opportunities in units like the Biodiversity Research Centre, Data Science Institute, Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, and School of Public Policy and Global Affairs. UBC offers world-class facilities, including the Earth Sciences Building and Aquatic Ecosystems Research Laboratory.

Responsibilities include leading a funded research program, supervising students, teaching, and participating in service. Qualifications require a PhD, leadership in interdisciplinary research, excellence in research and teaching, and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
