The programme of research maps onto the translational research pathway ranging from fundamental science through to pre-clinical testing of new therapeutic agents as well as early and late phase clinical trials.

The Division of Cancer and Genetics provides expertise and facilities to conduct research into human genetics and disease, prognostic and diagnostic markers for cancer, novel therapies for solid organ and haematological cancers, metastasis, cancer immunology and cancer cell biology.

Programme Structure
The following areas are available:
- Haematological malignancy - focus on basic and translational research into haematological malignancies and clinical trials exploring innovative treatment for leukaemia;
- Genetic and genomic medicine - to better understand the underlying mechanisms of cancer and genetic illness;
- Solid cancers - aiming to improve the outcome of patients with cancer with a primary focus on clinical trials and linked laboratory research.

English requirements
TOEFL iBT is accepted by more than 13,000 universities and other institutions in over 160 countries. The test can be taken at a test center or at home. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30. Required score: 90.
PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90. Required score: 69.
The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading). Required score: 6.5.

General requirements
- Applicants should possess a minimum of an upper second class Honours degree, master's degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- In some cases, a medical degree and/or relevant professional qualifications or experience are required.
- Specifically funded PhD projects will be advertised with specific instructions on applications, otherwise prospective students are advised to contact potential supervisors.
- A personal statement or covering letter should address how the applicant can contribute to the proposed project.
