Description

Provides expertise in support of research projects in engineering, biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, etc. Prepares and edits research papers, proposals, and reports. Performs advanced testing procedures and analyses of data. May prepare samples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedures and performs analyses of data. Makes use of a variety of specialized equipment typical within area of specialization. May contribute to grant proposal development.

Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Mingfu Wu is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Researcher to support ongoing NIH- and AHA-funded projects focused on cardiovascular development and disease. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic team of scientists investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying dementia, heart formation, congenital defects, and cardiomyopathy, using both in vitro and in vivo mouse models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform genotyping, tissue dissection, and routine molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, RNA isolation, qPCR).
  • Conduct mouse colony management, including breeding, weaning, tagging, and record keeping.
  • Assist in conducting experiments involving mouse models of cardiovascular disease.
  • Perform histology, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy-based imaging.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of experiments and results.
  • Contribute to general laboratory maintenance and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Participate in lab meetings and collaborate closely with graduate students, postdocs, and the PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with mouse handling, husbandry, and genotyping is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in cardiovascular-related research is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and data recording skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with tissue sectioning, fluorescence microscopy, or in situ hybridization.
  • Familiarity with genetic lineage tracing or Cre-loxP systems.

Education will be considered in lieu of experience.

MQ: Bachelor's Degree with 3 years experience.
