The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Career Counselor in our Career Development Center. The Career Counselor supports students with the formulation of appropriate career goals based on the students interests, aptitudes, values and strengths. This position assists the student with development of a career plan and work with College staff for the development of an academic plan. It provides programming for students on career planning to include topics such as resume development, interview and professional skills. The Career Counselor is responsible for independent management of relationships with industry partners to connect graduate with professional employment opportunities.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

• Provides individual and group career counseling to assist students with the development of career goals and the alignment of those goals with associated academic curriculum;
• Assists student with decisions regarding career choices and related college majors by utilizing career assessments including, but not limited to Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Strong Interest Inventory and Clifton Strengths;
• Provides group programming and workshops to classes and other groups to support students career development;
• Serves as liaison to an academic school, collaborating with College staff to support career development of students through class presentations an programming;
• Develops and manages relationships with local industry and agencies to facilitate postings for career opportunities;
• Advises students on current developments and trends in the job market, as well as career and job placement opportunities;
• Connects students with applied learning opportunities to further enhance the student understanding of specific careers;
• Collaborates with College staff to support intake and enrollment processes for undecided students;
• Provides support for the college use of Clifton Strengths as a tool for student development;
• Performs other duties related to the job description and as assigned by the Director of Holistic Student Support.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree
• Three (3) years experience in a student development related field
• Experience with diverse populations
• Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, computer literacy
• Critical thinking abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters degree
• Experience in career counseling in a college setting
