Career Navigator
Position Summary
The Adult Education Department is recruiting for one full time Career Navigator. This position is responsible for coordinating instruction and support services to meet the needs of adult basic education students from enrollment through successful employment. This position will primarily focus on underserved populations including but not limited to, basic skills deficient, limited English proficiency, high-risk college students, incarcerated, and underemployed workers. Career Navigators will work primarily with assisting students in their efforts to achieve academic goals, but also will be a part of a team effort to ensure compliance and target accomplishments are met for the program.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists learners in setting and pursuing realistic personal, academic, and career goals.
- Assist in identifying potential student barriers and assist with solutions, including referrals to community resources, to overcome those barriers.
- Assist with student class schedules and establishing appropriate educational classes based on student need.
- Plan and implement one-on-one academic advisement sessions.
- Coordinate distance learning options for student support and success.
- Increase students overall college awareness, readiness, and potential for success.
- Conduct new student orientations and ensure students receive accurate program information.
- Establish relationships with VC departments and assist students with making appointments and completion of admission requirements.
- Evaluate pre and post-assessments and advise students on areas for improvement.
- Assist with student activities to increase retention and maintain student morale.
- Assist with student employment goals and preparedness as necessary.
- Maintain appropriate records and files for documentation of program and student accomplishments.
- Assist with the management of off-campus sites across the Golden Crescent service area.
- Complete annual staff development requirements as determined by SBOE rules
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with adult education staff, program participants, business and industry, public and private organizations, and VC staff.
- Performs all other duties as requested by Executive Director of the Adult Education Program.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, communications, or related field;
- Ability to work cooperatively with other divisions within the College
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
- Discretionary judgment regarding confidential information;
- Ability to accomplish basic business tasks, meet deadlines, and ability to learn and interpret policies and procedures;
- Sensitivity to diverse groups and a genuine caring and empathic attitude;
- Willingness to work evening hours and flexible schedule to meet program demands is required;
PREFERRED
- Bi-lingual preferred;
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel off-campus;
- Experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office suites, Internet, and social media.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
