Job Summary
Constructs, maintains, and remodels buildings or related structures. Installs, fixes, or modifies all aspects of a building, including walls, ceilings, floors, and stairs, as well as related structures like railings, doors, windows, and air conditioning systems. Follows blueprints and plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Typically requires 4 years of related experience.
Responsibilities
The job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Working under minimal supervision, constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures throughout campus ensuring projects are completed and are in good working order.
- Prepares for campus carpentry projects by ensuring the proper tools, equipment, and supplies are available at the job site.
- Performs and completes indoor and outdoor general maintenance and repair projects throughout campus, including (but not limited to) responding to flooded buildings due to adverse weather events and other emergency repair situations.
- Cleans equipment, tools, and shop area including disposing of hazardous products to maintain the equipment and work area in a safe and operational manner.
- May be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to other lower level carpenter positions.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization with four years experience or Associates degree from an accredited college or university. Valid driver's license and qualified to operate Augusta University vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Moderate level of knowledge in carpentry and general construction skills.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F
Pay Band: 8
Salary Minimum: $21.83/hour - $23.16/hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.
If applicable for the specific position based on the duties: the candidate will also need to have a credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.

Driver's License Statement
The Human Resources Division will request a driver's history report for the identified top candidate(s) for this position.
