Carpenter
Position Summary
Re-Post, Previous Applicants Need Not Re-Apply, Still Under Consideration. This position performs at a journey level for all of the carpentry duties associated with, but not limited to, the maintenance, alteration, and repair of University facilities, furnishings, and equipment.
This is a mandatory position as defined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event policy. Mandatory employees are expected to report to or remain at work during adverse weather and emergency events and, if deemed necessary, to work a different schedule or shift than normally assigned.
This position may also be required to participate in the On-Call and Emergency Callback program as outlined in the Facilities Operations Standard Operating Procedure.
Key Responsibility: General Carpentry Responsibilities
- Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment, and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers, etc.).
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.
- Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other materials according to project requirements.
- Build window frames, doors, staircases, decks, frame walls, etc., using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
- Fabricate furniture, cabinets, shelves, and other items, and install them.
- Lay out and install walls, flooring, drywall, and other materials in a professional manner.
- Perform carpentry and general building maintenance as required.
- Work closely with the supervisor to develop detailed work methods and strategies for difficult or unusual assignments.
