Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at UNSW
UNSW Medicine & Health is a national leader in learning, teaching and research, with close affiliations to several of Australia’s finest hospitals, research institutes and health care organisations.
The Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health within the School of Clinical Medicine leads the delivery of educational and research activities aimed at the maintenance of child and adolescent health from the neonatal period until 18 years of age.
Details of the role
A Research Assistant (RA) plays a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers within the Population Child Health Clinical Research Group, School of Clinical Medicine UNSW.
The RA will support the Enhancing Paediatrics in Primary Care (EPiPC) program in the Murrumbidgee region, coordinating site-level activities from a Wagga Wagga base. The role contributes to delivery and evaluation of EPiPC/EPiPC-S within rural primary care settings (general practices, community paediatrics, MDT/allied health), including stakeholder engagement, participant coordination, data collection and management, and operational trial support.
The RA will work closely with Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network, participating GP practices and the EPiPC clinical/research team to enable timely, high-quality implementation and evaluation aligned with project milestones. The post holder will report to the Head of the Population Child Health Research Group.
Some key skills required:
- A university degree in health-related research methods or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience
- Demonstrated experience providing practical research support within clinical or primary-care settings, with strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience with qualitative research methods (interviews and focus groups) and an understanding of basic statistical principles
- Ability to coordinate day-to-day research activities across multiple sites, including scheduling MDT and case-conference activities
- Experience administering surveys and clinician instruments, supporting practice-level data extracts, and maintaining secure research records
- Familiarity with REDCap or similar databases, including basic data cleaning and quality assurance processes
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines independently
- Willingness to travel across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and work flexibly to meet project needs, including holding a current driver licence
Desirable:
- Experience in paediatric/community health or general practice research; familiarity with EPiPC/EPiPC-S aims (access, timeliness, service utilisation; health outcomes; cost-effectiveness; implementation).
- Familiarity with REDCap or similar, and with practice-level data processes.
- Experience supporting PDSA/quality-improvement cycles and hybrid effectiveness-implementation evaluations.
- Lived experience or prior work in rural NSW communities.
