- Expressions of interest sought for Study Assistants in the First Peoples Directorate to provide tailored academic student support
- Multiple casual positions are available during ACU semesters
- Located at ACU campuses in Canberra, Blacktown, North Sydney, Strathfield, Brisbane, Ballarat, Melbourne
- Majority of tutorial sessions are facilitated online.
- Casual hourly rates apply - rates, inclusive of casual loading, are $55.82 or $66.62 per hour (depending on qualifications) plus superannuation.
About the role:
The Australian Government provides funding for a Study Assistance Program at Australian Catholic University (ACU), through the Indigenous Student Success Program (ISSP) within the First Peoples Directorate. This program includes the engagement of Casual Study Assistants who will provide personalised academic support to ACU Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
The goal of the Casual Study Assistant will be to build student confidence, so they develop effective study skills and become more independent learners throughout their university studies. Individuals from any cultural background who can demonstrate appropriate skills and qualifications (including evidence of strong academic achievement) are encouraged to apply to become an ACU Casual Study Assistant.
Role requirements:
- Ability to coordinate tuition with students
- Ability to build and sustain collaborative, respectful relationships with diverse peoples
- Ability to support and enhance students learning of subject specific content
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of subject content
- Capacity to manage administrative aspects of the program (promptly submitting session reports and accepting contracts).

You will need to have:
- A relevant qualification aligned to ACU Degree Programs or minimum GPA of 6 and enrolled in second year of University Degree Program to offer tutorial support for first year students.
- Possess an understanding of the key factors impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in Higher Education.
- A valid Working with Children Check.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in using digital tools for training and assessment.
- Passionate about education, patient, empathetic, and committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success.
