Centre Manager

Full-time Continuing opportunity situated at the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, Missendon Road, Camperdown

Lead the operations of a world-class clinical trials centre and shape research that improves health outcomes globally

Base Salary $146,197 - $154,260 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a flagship centre of excellence in clinical trials and related research at the University of Sydney. We design and deliver trials and related research, including coordination, monitoring, data acquisition and management, and statistical analysis. Our health economics, biostatistics, systematic reviews, and biomarker teams work with trial data to inform healthcare providers about best practices.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Centre Manager to help drive the next phase of our success.

In this senior leadership role, you'll oversee the Centre's operations and play a key part in delivering major strategic projects, building strong collaborations, and ensuring our clinical trials make a real impact. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Centre Director and senior leaders, as well as lead people, processes, and partnerships that shape the future of our research.

In this role, you'll oversee the operational heartbeat of the Centre - guiding strategy, people, processes, governance, and resources to ensure that our clinical trials deliver real impact for patients and communities. You will also be the connector - building strong relationships with researchers, clinicians, industry partners, government, and international networks.

If you are a strategic thinker, inspiring leader, and skilled collaborator, we invite you to bring your expertise to a role where your contribution truly matters.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead the effective planning, delivery, and monitoring of major strategic projects, ensuring timelines and efficiencies are met across the Centre.
  • Drive operational excellence of the Centre by overseeing systems, processes, and resources to support high-quality research and clinical trial activity.
  • Build and sustain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, industry, government, and international networks.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Centre administration staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture that supports research and operational success.
  • Implement and manage communication and engagement strategies, including internal and external reporting, events, newsletters, and media initiatives.

About you

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field with a combination of relevant training and experience.
  • Proven experience in strategic and operational management within a research-intensive or complex organisational environment, with strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management capability, including supervising, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships across diverse groups, including researchers, clinicians, government, industry, and international partners.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to exercise sound judgement, resolve conflict, and manage sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Highly developed organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment.
