Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon - Open Rank

Position Summary/Description:

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) invites applications for a fellowship-trained Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon to join our growing multidisciplinary program. The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic environment comprising 12 neurosurgeons with expertise across subspecialties, supported by robust clinical, research, and educational infrastructure within the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health.

The ideal candidate will join a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary cerebrovascular team and contribute significantly to the continued development of UNC's endovascular program and comprehensive stroke center. This role is predominantly endovascular, with most of the clinical practice focused on vascular pathologies but also including the emerging applications and therapies in functional, oncology, CSF physiology and beyond. The candidate will also participate in open cerebrovascular practice.

Neurosurgery Services:

Our neurosurgery services include treatment for aneurysms and cerebrovascular disease, brain tumor treatment, epilepsy and functional neurosurgery, spine and head trauma, hydrocephalus, pituitary and skull base surgery, spinal neurosurgery, pediatric and fetal neurosurgery.

The department has expanded in recent years with new neurosurgical faculty, including surgeon-scientists, master clinicians, and an extraordinarily talented multimedia medical illustration team. There is a new neurosurgical outpatient center at the ACC. UNC Health has acquired the latest technology, including the LITT, Robot, and high/low-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU/LIFU), and the department has established a new peripheral nerve and spinal oncology program. The department generated $2.52M in grant funding and received $2.95M in philanthropic support. In the last few years, the department has improved its standing in Blue Ridge and US News & World Report rankings.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert endovascular neurosurgical care for patients with aneurysms, AVMs, AVFs, ischemic stroke, and other complex cerebrovascular conditions.
  • Participate in the open vascular practice (carotids, aneurysms, AVMs, ICHs) as required.
  • Manage and grow emerging applications of endovascular neurosurgery and participate in clinical trials.
  • Participate in general and neurovascular call duties.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultative neurosurgical care within UNC Hospitals.
