LSU Health Shreveport welcomes your application for the Chair, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology in Shreveport, Louisiana. Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport (LSUHS) is an academic medical center made up of the School of Medicine, School of Health Professions and Sciences, and Graduate School. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is one of six graduate programs in the Graduate School, in addition to those in the departments of Cellular Biology and Anatomy, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience.
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join us as the Department Chair to guide our faculty, researchers, and students and direct future growth of the department in new areas of research. The ideal candidate would be engaged in cancer research, although exceptionally strong candidates in other fields may be considered.
Faculty in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are involved in the education of Medical and Graduate Students as well as mentoring PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The skills and expertise of our scientists contribute actively to ongoing departmental research in the following areas: cancer biology, cancer metabolism, neuroscience, transcriptional regulation, and racial disparities in cancer. Responsibilities of the chair include:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic vision for the department.
- Academic Program Development: Enhance existing academic programs and explore opportunities for new programs that meet the evolving needs of students and the scientific community.
- Research Excellence: Foster a culture of research excellence by supporting faculty in securing research grants, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations, and facilitating the publication of impactful research.
- Faculty and Staff Development: Provide mentorship and support to faculty and staff.
- Student Engagement and Teaching: Ensure a high-quality educational experience for medical and graduate students by overseeing curriculum development, promoting innovative teaching methods, and facilitating opportunities for student research and internships.
- Resource Management: Effectively manage departmental resources.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Substantial experience in teaching to students in medical, graduate, and/or health profession programs.
- A distinguished record of research and scholarly achievements.
- Proven leadership experience in an academic or research setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead diverse and collaborative teams.
- Qualify for the rank of Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
