Position Description
The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine seeks an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Basic and Translational Sciences. This full-time tenured faculty position is at the Associate or Full Professor level. The Chair will lead a department committed to advancing foundational science and translating discoveries into clinical applications.
The Department of Basic and Translational Sciences brings together the School's basic and translational science faculty. The chair is responsible for developing programs that support the School's priorities, overall administration and leadership of academic departmental programs, research, teaching and mentorship, strategic planning, financial management, faculty recruitment and development, oversight of graduate and DMD educational programs, and interactions with other departments.
Qualifications
- Education: DMD, PhD, MD, DVM or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field.
- Experience: A distinguished record of scholarly achievement in basic and/or translational sciences and active funded research program. Proven leadership experience in an academic or research setting.
- Skills and Competencies: Ability to articulate a compelling vision for basic and translational research. Strong commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive environment. Demonstrated ability to manage large programs, budgets, and personnel.
