We welcome candidates with strong teaching profiles in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry who can effectively teach foundational lecture courses for both non-majors and majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry. The successful candidate should also demonstrate the potential to teach laboratory courses.
This search is part of a College-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are prepared to contribute to a culture of inclusion, committed to interdisciplinarity, dedicated to the pursuit of external grants, and appreciative of a Jesuit, Catholic education.
The position involves teaching introductory and foundational chemistry courses across both semesters of the academic year. The successful candidate will engage in professional development activities as well as service at the department level or above.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience:
The candidate will have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or in a closely related field at the time of appointment. Candidates should have experience teaching chemistry for students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry and biology, and others who aspire to careers in the health sciences. We have implemented a new curriculum in which topics traditionally taught in general, organic, and analytical chemistry are integrated across the foundational courses rather than siloed in separate courses. Candidates for the position must demonstrate the potential for distinguished teaching, collaboration with instructor teams, and student mentorship, or must possess a record of such accomplishments. Candidates must demonstrate clear potential for excellence in teaching and student mentorship. They must be willing to support the mission of Loyola University Chicago and the goals of a Jesuit, Catholic education.
