Chief Plant Operator
Job Summary
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Chief Plant Operator is responsible for directing and coordinating activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements
Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems
Plans and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment and in the development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems
Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment; establishes and maintains preventative maintenance schedules
Troubleshoots equipment as necessary to identify and correct broken or failing parts and evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
Interfaces with contractors and vendors as necessary; ensures contracted work is performed in a timely and safe manner, and adheres to all established policies, procedures, and laws
Manages office functions, including task management, job assignments, communication with other staff and faculty, placing orders for parts and supplies, entering data for equipment, and payroll
Ensures proper environmental conditions are set throughout the district/campus of assignment
General Supervision and Management
Provides leadership for all assigned direct reports
Service Excellence
Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the work site
Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager
Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Five (5) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
One (1) years' experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others)
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification
Current HVAC Certification, Maintenance Electrician License and/or Apprentice Plumbers Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification
At least one (1) year of journeyman level experience in at least one of the areas supervised
Vocational school training
At least one (1) year's working experience in mechanics and/or instrument repair
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
