CIRES/ NOAA NCEI Space Weather Data Manager
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado in Boulder has an immediate opening for a Space Weather Data Manager working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). NCEI is a globally recognized repository and provider of long-term geophysical, space weather, and marine data. This position is located within NCEI’s Solar and Terrestrial Physics (STP) branch.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating the ingest, archive, and distribution of data collected by NOAA satellites and other space-weather observation platforms.
- Developing and maintaining scripts to enhance the automation of operational processes.
- Identifying ways to improve and enhance ingest and access systems and assisting in implementing these changes.
- Drafting and maintaining external and internal documentation.
- Populating online databases and creating and modifying websites to enable discovery and access for space weather data products.
- Collaborating with the space weather team, including other data managers and software engineers.
- Monitoring and improving data repositories and services.
- Creating metadata in standard formats to drive discovery services for big data.
- Assisting researchers and the public regarding NOAA’s space weather data.
- Researching technological advances and standard methodologies in data stewardship and data sciences.
- Maintaining a basic understanding of the science data in the archive.
