UCI Transportation and Distribution Services oversees a myriad of organization wide units including; transportation planning, parking operations, guest and event services, business mail services, campus mapping, fleet services, sustainable transportation, document management including personnel records systems, and passport services at the University of California, Irvine. Your Role on the Team

Under the general supervision of the enforcement supervisors, the lead parking representative is responsible for all aspects of parking citation management, including adjudication, the reconciliation of payments (totaling more than $1M annually), the facilitation and resolution of complaints and inquiries regarding parking violations and the administrative adjudication process, the dispensation of delinquency notices, and the preparation and scheduling of administrative hearings. Other responsibilities include: dispatch duties in support of enforcement officers in the field; and the training of new FTE, casual-restricted, and volunteer enforcement employees. The Lead Parking Representative will be required to use independent judgment in decision-making while maintaining compliance with the California Vehicle Code (CVC), have the ability to articulate written and verbal information effectively, and perform multiple complex tasks in an occasionally high-stress environment.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Capable of interacting with a diverse population in a high-volume, customer-focused work environment. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate patiently and courteously with irate individuals. Effective conflict resolution skills with the ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility. Ability to interpret and explain complex policies and regulations to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Capable of making quick decisions in a field setting. Able to establish and maintain good working relationships in a diverse and team-based department. Skilled at communicate clearly and effectively with tact and professionalism to a diverse group of faculty/staff, students, and public customers. Ability to follow through on assignments and work independently, receiving only general direction. Adaptable to rapid and frequent changes in operational procedures and working environment. Ability to identify relevant concerns or factors, reach logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives and implications. Proficient in basic computer skills and MS Office applications. Able to work outdoors, year-round, and in all weather conditions. Availability to work a rotating schedule that will include evenings and weekends. Able to work around moving vehicles on roadways, parking lots, and surface lots. Willingness to wear department-issued uniform. Working knowledge of the California Vehicle Code as it relates to parking enforcement. Mathematical skill sufficient to monitor and maintain effective control of money received from payment for permits, citations, and other products. Demonstrate skill in using the phonetic alphabet.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience In a related field

Preferred:

  • Previous supervisory experience in the parking and transportation industry and knowledge of related Federal, State and local codes and regulations. Knowledge of UC/UCI policies and procedures. Knowledge of UCI campus layout (buildings, roadways, and parking lots). Knowledge of the California Vehicle Code. Some knowledge in regards to impounding/releasing vehicles. Knowledge of adjudication/citation appeals process. Basic knowledge of a hand-held, two-way radio system. Basic knowledge hand-held ticket writer. Knowledge of traffic signs, traffic barricading, and associated equipment. Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations pertaining to traffic control. Familiarity with the department's on-line systems such as EPICS, Electronic Educational Environment (EEE), Antpark, and When to Work. Parking Hearing Examiner certification. Previous citation adjudication experience. Customer service training. Conflict resolution training. California Association of Code Enforcement Officers basic certificate. PC832 training

Total Compensation

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $24.32-$26.30 hourly.
