The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS) at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, position in Actuarial Science at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2026. The Actuarial Science programs at Arizona State University, established in 2014 and 2018 for the Bachelor's and Master's degrees respectively, have a total enrollment of approximately 100 students. Our Actuarial Science program obtained the Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) designation by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) in June 2024, which compliments the program’s recognition at the gold level by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). The program also has an active chapter of the Gamma Iota Sigma, Kappa.

About the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS)

The School offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Statistics, as well as undergraduate and Master’s programs in Actuarial Science. In addition, the School offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree program in Data Science and participates in a cross-college Ph.D. program in Data Science.

The School has a strong interdisciplinary research profile that includes numerous opportunities for collaboration on the campus with, for example, the Fulton Schools of Engineering, the School of Earth and Space Exploration, the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, and with interdisciplinary centers and institutes, such as the Institute for Social Science Research, the College of Health Solutions, the Global Institute of Sustainability, as well as off-campus with the thriving medical and technical industries in the Phoenix region.

The School has excellent computing resources that include individual faculty workstations, several high-performance servers and a small cluster, as well as access to the University's central computing facilities and the High-Performance Computing Initiative. Essential Functions:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in courses relevant for our undergraduate and Master’s Actuarial Science programs

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. degree in actuarial science or mathematics or statistics or computer science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching student mentoring in actuarial science.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A documented record of excellence in teaching and student mentoring in actuarial science.
  • Experience in curriculum development in actuarial science and/or related fields ie., statistics, risk management, mathematics, etc.
  • Significant progress toward credentialing at the associateship or fellowship level with the Society of Actuaries (SOA), Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or a society mutually recognized by SOA or CAS.
  • Professional experience in industry and/or industry connections.
  • Demonstrated success working with a wide range of student and/or faculty populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter
