Clinical Assistant Professor – Lawyering Skills & Strategies (LSS)
The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a promotion-eligible, non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor position in Lawyering Skills & Strategies (LSS) for the academic year 2026-2027. The contract is for nine months, from 9/1/2026 to 5/31/2027, beginning when classes start in late August 2026 and continuing through the middle of May 2027. This position teaches two courses each semester of UHLC’s first-year legal writing course, entitled Lawyering Skills & Strategies. For an example, see: https://www.law.uh.edu/schedule/class_information.asp?cid=16265.
The non-tenure track appointment will have a one-year probationary contract period with no presumption of renewal. However, based upon continued positive evaluations, it may lead to additional annual contract periods followed by a presumptively renewable multi-year contract. The initial salary is expected to be approximately $80,000 for a nine-month academic year for the Assistant level.
Subject to UHLC policies, this promotion-eligible NTT faculty position is eligible for an annual allotment for travel and professional development and to participate in a summer research program which awards funds to support scholarship. An attorney appointed must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. As an NTT position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.
